The Home Secretary is thought to be pushing for the change to fill NHS vacancies

The Home secretary is thought to be pushing for relaxed immigration rules for foreign doctors and nurses, to help the NHS struggles with recruiting medical staff.

The government cap at the moment means many qualifed professionals are refused visas despite the NHS looking to fill 45,000 vacancies in February. The Financial Times reported that 2,360 visa applications by doctors were refused because of the government's current limits.

Sajid Javid has hinted he is looking to 'widen the net' for skilled workers outside the EU who meet the UK's needs, allowing them to fill specialist-skill set jobs that are in need of staff.
